Pittsfield is in western Massachusetts, reached most easily by car via the Massachusetts Turnpike and US Route 7. It is roughly 2.5 hours from Boston and a little over an hour from Albany, depending on traffic and weather.
Amtrak's Lake Shore Limited stops at the Joseph Scelsi Intermodal Transportation Center downtown. Regional buses also use the same terminal, making Pittsfield one of the easier Berkshire towns to reach without a car, though exploring the hills is much simpler with one.
