Lawson Tower

Eccentric early-20th-century bell tower built to disguise a town water standpipe.

Lawson Tower is the kind of odd local landmark that makes a town memorable. It looks like a European bell tower, but it was built to hide a steel water standpipe.

The tower is usually only open to climb during special Historical Society days. Even from outside, it is worth a stop for the strange confidence of the design and the way it turns town infrastructure into theatre.
