Scituate is a South Shore town where the best parts sit close to the water: the harbour, the old lighthouse, small beaches, and a scatter of maritime history. It feels local rather than showy, which is a useful change of pace from Boston or the busier Cape routes.
Start around Scituate Harbor, then walk or drive out to Scituate Lighthouse. If you want history, Lawson Tower and the Historical Society sites add an odd, very New England layer to the day. If the weather is warm, the beaches are the real reason to linger.
Scituate works best as a half-day or full-day coastal pause. It is not a place of blockbuster sights, but the mix of lighthouse, harbour, beaches, and old houses is enough to make a spare day feel well spent.
