The Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden in the Quadrangle district honours Springfield's most beloved son — Theodor Seuss Geisel, who grew up here and went on to create some of the most influential children's books ever written. The garden contains five bronze sculptures by Lark Grey Dimond-Cappa depicting the most famous Seuss characters: the Cat in the Hat, Horton, the Lorax, the Grinch, and the author himself, shown reading to the Cat.
The sculptures are at life size or slightly larger, and the garden is freely accessible at all times — it is more affecting than you might expect, especially with children in tow. The nearby Dr. Seuss Museum inside the Springfield Museums complex has exhibits covering Geisel's life, his early advertising career, and the creation of the books.
