The Berkshire Botanical Garden sits at the junction of Routes 102 and 183 just north of Stockbridge, a 24-acre site of themed garden rooms, herb gardens, vegetable beds, and perennial borders. It is a working educational garden as much as a display garden, and the emphasis is on plants that grow well in the Berkshires climate — genuinely useful if you garden at similar latitudes.
The garden is at its most spectacular from late July through September, when the perennial borders are in full bloom and the herb gardens are dense and aromatic. The annual Harvest Festival in early October is one of the better seasonal events in the Berkshires, with produce sales, demonstrations, and local food producers. The entrance fee is modest and the garden is never crowded.
