A 1928 atmospheric movie palace in downtown Flint, designed by John Eberson — the architect behind some of the great American cinema houses of the silent-film era. The Capitol's interior recreates an outdoor Italian courtyard, with twinkling stars and moving clouds painted on the ceiling above a balcony framed by stone arches and faux statuary.
After decades of decay, the Capitol was restored at a cost of $37 million and reopened in 2017. It now hosts concerts, comedy and classic film screenings. Even if there's nothing on, the lobby is usually open and worth a look.
