Durant-Dort Factory One

Address 303 West Water Street, Flint, MI 48503

The 1880s factory building across the river from the Durant-Dort office is where the first Buicks were built before the company moved to its own plant — making Factory One arguably the original birthplace of General Motors production. Bought and restored by GM in 2013 as a centennial project, the brick complex now houses a small museum, the GM Heritage Center archives, and event space.

It is best visited as a pair with the Durant-Dort Office across the street; together they make the most interesting hour of automotive history in the city.
