Seven Lakes State Park

1,400 acres of lakes, woodland trails, and boat launches just west of town

Seven Lakes State Park sits about three miles north-west of Holly and runs to roughly 1,400 acres. It is the busiest park in this corner of Oakland County — picnic pavilions and a guarded swimming beach on the main lake, miles of marked hiking and mountain bike trails through the surrounding woods, a boat launch, and rental rowboats and kayaks in summer.

In winter the cross-country ski tracks are groomed and the lakes freeze hard enough for ice fishing. A small campground takes both tents and RVs. Day-use parking is around ten dollars and an annual Michigan Recreation Passport works in lieu.

A story
The seven lakes were a single small body of water called Big Seven Lake until a 1969 dam project linked them; the state then bought the land and turned it into a park. Drowned tree stumps still poke out of some of the new sections.
