Mount Baldhead is the dune across the Kalamazoo River from downtown Saugatuck. The climb is simple but honest: more than 300 wooden steps up to an observation deck, with the river, town, and Lake Michigan opening out from the top.
From the summit you can continue down sandy paths toward Oval Beach. It is a much better way to understand Saugatuck than simply driving to the beach lot.
