Oval Beach

Saugatuck's broad Lake Michigan beach, backed by dunes and summer facilities.

Oval Beach is Saugatuck's main reason to draw the map toward Lake Michigan. It has the things a good Great Lakes beach needs: clean sand, open water, dune edges, sunsets, and enough facilities to make a lazy afternoon easy.

In high summer it is not secluded, and parking can feel like part of the ritual. The better arrival, if you like a small adventure, is to take the chain ferry from town, climb Mount Baldhead, and walk down through the dunes to the lake.
