Amical on Front Street has been a downtown Traverse City anchor for decades, serving a broadly European menu — French and Italian inflections, good salads and charcuterie, solid main courses — in a warm, reliably competent room. It is the kind of place that works for a business dinner, a date, or a family celebration without being stuffy about any of them. The patio is one of the best in the downtown for warm evenings.
The wine list skews toward France and Italy with a reasonable selection of northern Michigan bottles. Service is professional without being formal. Amical survives because it does what it does consistently well, year after year, which in a tourist town is no small achievement.
