Nature Trails

Behind the dunes, Warren Dunes has several kilometres of hiking trails through beech-maple forest that feels completely separate from the beach scene out front. The trees are mature and tall, the canopy is dense in summer, and the trails wind through dune ridges and hollows that were formed by the same wind-and-water processes that built Tower Hill. It is a genuine forest, not a manicured greenway, and in autumn the foliage turns the whole area gold and rust in a way that makes fall hiking here as rewarding as summer beach visits.

The trails are not technical — this is not a place for challenging elevation or difficult navigation — but they are long enough to give you a real walk and quiet enough that you will likely have stretches of forest entirely to yourself, even on busy summer weekends when the beach is packed. Dogs are welcome on the trails on a leash. Great blue herons are often visible from the trail edges near the wetland areas in the park interior, and the forest is good birding generally in spring migration. Trail maps are available at the park entrance.
