World's Best Donuts is a small clapboard shop on Wisconsin Street, a block back from the Grand Marais harbour. It has been making cake doughnuts, raised doughnuts, and the local speciality "skizzles" (deep-fried doughnut twists rolled in sugar) since 1969, and is one of the most-visited businesses in town. The shop opens for the summer in mid-May and closes in October.
There is a small dining counter inside, a few wooden picnic tables on the patio, and a window from which you watch the bakers at work. Cash and card; expect a 10–20 minute queue in July and August. Open early; sells out by mid-afternoon.
