Joe's Kansas City is consistently ranked among the best barbecue restaurants in the country, and in a city of serious competitors that's a real claim. Originally operating out of a gas station (the original location at 47th and Mission in Kansas City, Kansas is still inside a working BP), Joe's has expanded but maintained its reputation for exceptional smoked meats.
The Z-Man sandwich is the signature: smoked brisket, smoked provolone, and crispy onion straws on a kaiser roll. The burnt ends — the caramelised tips of the brisket — are spectacular when available. Expect a queue at lunchtime. Cash accepted.
