When to Go

Kansas City has four distinct seasons and a continental climate. Summers are hot and humid — July averages in the low 90s°F (around 33°C) with high humidity — and severe thunderstorms are common in late spring and early summer. Winters are cold and occasionally snowy, with temperatures regularly dropping below freezing in January and February. Spring and autumn are the best times to visit: May, September, and October combine comfortable temperatures with outdoor events, farmers' markets in full swing, and the full schedule of arts and cultural programming.

Baseball season (April through September) is a good time to catch a Royals game at Kauffman Stadium. NFL season (September through January) means Chiefs game tickets are near-impossible to get at face value but the city is electric on game days. The First Fridays art walk in the Crossroads happens year-round. The Country Club Plaza holiday lights run from Thanksgiving through mid-January and are a major local event.
