T-Mobile Center (formerly Sprint Center) is a 19,000-seat arena in downtown Kansas City, opened in 2007. It is consistently one of the busiest concert venues in North America, regularly appearing in the top ten for annual ticket sales. The arena hosts major touring acts, college basketball's Big 12 Tournament, NCAA events, and boxing. Notable for not having a permanent NBA or NHL tenant — an unusual situation for an arena of its size and consistent capacity.
The building anchors the KC Power & Light entertainment district immediately to the east, a pedestrianized block of bars, restaurants, and live music venues that fills on event nights and on weekends. Even without a specific event, the surrounding district is one of the more energetic parts of downtown. The arena itself is worth checking for programming during your visit — major artists regularly appear here on tours that skip some larger cities.
