Greycliff Prairie Dog Town State Park

Small state park protecting a black-tailed prairie dog colony east of Big Timber.

Greycliff Prairie Dog Town State Park is a small, simple wildlife stop with one job: letting visitors watch a black-tailed prairie dog colony in its own grassland. The animals are social, noisy, alert, and much more entertaining than the modest size of the park suggests.

Bring binoculars and stay patient. The stop works well on the drive between Big Timber and Billings, especially for families or anyone who wants a plains-wildlife break from mountain scenery.
