Housed in the restored 1894 Central School building — a handsome brick structure in the middle of downtown — this regional museum covers the history of the Flathead Valley from the Salish and Kootenai peoples through the homesteading era, the building of the Great Northern Railway, and the establishment of Glacier National Park. The building itself is worth a look: the architects left the old school's interior largely visible, with museum exhibits laid into the classroom spaces.
The permanent collection includes Native American artifacts, frontier-era clothing and tools, and good historical photographs of the valley before the roads arrived. Small admission fee; allow an hour.
