The Fort Robinson Museum puts the state park's buildings and parade grounds into context. Exhibits cover the Red Cloud Agency, cavalry life, the death of Crazy Horse at the fort, and the later Army uses of the post.
It is the place to start before wandering the grounds, because the landscape makes more sense when you know how many different histories are layered here.
