Tom Devlin's Monster Museum

Tom Devlin's Monster Museum is a small, idiosyncratic collection in the historic district, run by a working Hollywood special-effects makeup artist. It is one part personal showroom and one part homage to horror cinema — life-sized recreations of the Wolfman, the Bride of Frankenstein, and the alien from Predator stand alongside original screen-used props from films Devlin has worked on.

It is a deliberately silly place, and a good antidote if you have spent too much of the day looking at New Deal concrete. Admission is around 15 dollars; the visit takes around 30 minutes. Open most afternoons; closed on some weekdays — check the hours before walking over.
