Cave Lake State Park

Mountain reservoir with trout fishing and campground near Ely

Cave Lake State Park sits about 15 miles southeast of Ely in a canyon of the Schell Creek Range, at an elevation of around 7,300 feet. The reservoir is stocked with rainbow and brown trout and is popular with fly fishers. There are also hiking trails into the surrounding mountains, and a campground that makes a reasonable base for exploring the area without paying Ely motel prices. The drive up from town is pleasant — winding through pinyon-juniper forest with views back across the valley.
