Aria Resort and Casino

Modernist centerpiece of the Aria Campus complex

Address 3730 Las Vegas Blvd South

Aria opened in 2009 as the anchor of the CityCenter development, since renamed Aria Campus. The 60-storey curved tower marked a turn away from the themed-replica school of Vegas design — there are no canals, no pyramids, just glass and curves and a "Fine Art Collection" of major public sculptures scattered around the property. Look for Maya Lin's Silver River, a 84-foot reclaimed-silver casting of the Colorado River, behind the front desk.

The casino floor is unusually airy by Vegas standards, with high ceilings and natural light through the curtain wall. Restaurants include Carbone, Catch, and Sadelle's. The free Aria Express tram runs to the Bellagio at one end and Park MGM at the other, useful for crossing this dense block of the Strip without battling the crowds outside.

A story
The Aria Campus complex (originally called CityCenter) was the largest privately funded construction project in U.S. history when it opened in 2009 — a $9 billion mini-city dropped onto a wedge of the Strip in a single coordinated build.
