Davis Dam

Colorado River dam forming Lake Mohave just upstream from Laughlin and Bullhead City.

Davis Dam stands just north of Laughlin, holding back Lake Mohave and regulating the Colorado River between Hoover Dam and Parker Dam. It is less famous than Hoover, but the setting is more open: desert ridges, blue water, and a broad sweep of river country.

You do not need a long visit. Pair the dam viewpoints with the Colorado River Heritage Greenway, or use it as the northern marker for a river walk. The dam also explains why the water below Laughlin can be startlingly cold even when the air feels baked.
