Grapevine Canyon is the strongest reason to leave Laughlin for the desert. A short walk up the sandy wash brings you to dark boulders covered with petroglyphs: spirals, bighorn sheep, star forms, and geometric figures carved into the stone.
The canyon lies within Avi Kwa Ame National Monument, near Spirit Mountain, a sacred landscape for the Mojave and other tribes. Do not touch the rock art, climb on the panels, or treat the site as a casual photo prop. The walk is easy in distance but fully exposed; go in the morning and avoid the worst months of summer.
