Mount Tecumseh is the classic serious hike from Waterville Valley. The trail starts near the ski area and climbs steadily to one of New Hampshire's 4,000-footers, making it a compact but real mountain day.
Do not underestimate it because the trailhead is close to resort buildings. Weather changes quickly in the White Mountains, and winter conditions can turn a familiar route into a full snow-and-ice climb.
