Georgia O'Keeffe's Abiquiu home is a spare adobe compound with views that explain a great deal about her late work. She bought the ruined property in the 1940s and made it her main New Mexico base, using its courtyard, black door, cottonwoods, and surrounding hills again and again as subjects.
Visits are by reserved tour through the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum. Do not turn up expecting to wander in; the controlled access is part of how the house has survived as a working place rather than a stage set.
