The Lodge Resort and Spa is Cloudcroft's most notable landmark — a Victorian-era wood-frame building with a distinctive red copper-topped tower that you can see from the main street. Built during the railroad era as a resort for lowland visitors escaping the heat, it burned down in 1909 and was rebuilt in 1911. The present building is on the National Register of Historic Places and still operates as a hotel with a restaurant and the Governor's Bar.
Even if you are not staying, the Lodge is worth a visit for the architecture and the views from its porch, which looks out across the mountain forest. The nine-hole golf course behind the building claims to be one of the highest-elevation courses in the country at around 8,600 feet. The course is open to non-guests.
