Just outside the Very Large Array visitor centre stands a curious sundial dedicated to Ronald Bracewell, the Stanford radio astronomer who pioneered solar mapping in the 1960s. It's made from ten of the original concrete piers that supported Bracewell's microwave-spectroheliograph dishes at Stanford — relics of radio astronomy rebuilt here as a time-piece.
A short concrete walk from the visitor centre with explanatory plaques. Worth ten minutes; combine with the VLA tour.
