The Long Island Museum is Stony Brook's best indoor stop. Its campus includes art, history, gardens, historic buildings, and a large carriage collection that is much more interesting than it sounds if you give it time.
The museum is especially good at connecting wealthy north-shore Long Island with rural, working, and transport history. It is a useful corrective to the idea that this part of the island is only estates and suburbs.
