Muza

Muza is a Polish restaurant on Main Street, the kind of place that doesn't fit the New Paltz archetype but has become genuinely beloved. The menu covers the standards of Central European cooking — pierogi, bigos, kielbasa, beet soups — executed with real skill and served in generous portions. The interior is unpretentious and the prices are reasonable.

The pierogi come in multiple fillings and are made in-house; the potato and cheese version and the sauerkraut and mushroom are both reliably good. The bigos (hunter's stew) changes slightly with the seasons but is always hearty. Muza is particularly welcome in autumn and winter, when the heavier cooking feels exactly right after a day in the cold air of the ridge.
