P&G's Restaurant

P&G's has occupied its corner spot on Main Street since the 1970s and has the institutional feel of a place that has served every generation of SUNY students, climbers, and locals since. The bar is long, the lighting is dim, the beer selection is extensive, and the food — primarily bar sandwiches and pub standards — does its job without pretension.

It is probably the most reliably local bar in New Paltz: less crowded with city day-trippers than some of the newer spots, more worn-in, and with a jukebox that reflects thirty years of eclectic taste. Live music happens occasionally. On weekend nights it fills up quickly; on weeknights it is a civilized place to sit at the bar and strike up a conversation with whoever happens to be there.
