Orchard Street

Historic Jewish market street still lined with discount fabric and clothing shops south of Delancey

Orchard Street was the outdoor market heart of the Jewish Lower East Side, lined with pushcarts and stalls selling fabric, clothing and household goods. South of Delancey the discount fabric and clothing shops that remain give a faint impression of that era; north of Delancey the street has been entirely colonised by bars and restaurants. On summer Sundays the block below Delancey closes to traffic and hosts a street fair.
