Corning

Finger Lakes city known for glassmaking, the Corning Museum of Glass, and restored Market Street.

Corning is a small city in the southern Finger Lakes, best known for the Corning Museum of Glass, one of the finest specialty museums in the country. The museum alone draws half a million visitors a year, with live glassblowing demonstrations and a collection spanning 35 centuries.

Beyond the museum, Corning's restored Market Street Historic District is a pleasant stretch of shops, restaurants, and galleries. The Rockwell Museum, also downtown, houses an excellent collection of Western and Native American art. It is an easy stop on the way into or out of the Finger Lakes from the south, sitting right off Interstate 86.

Eating Out

Market Street in downtown Corning has a good selection of restaurants for a town this size.

Aniello's Pizzeria

An institution in the Southern Tier. Aniello's does thin-crust New York-style pizza with a distinctive garlic-forward spice blend that sets it apart. The hot subs are also excellent, served fast and packed with flavor. If you want to taste the ingredients rather than just the cheese, this is your place.

Address: Market Street.
