Davidson College Arboretum

Tree collection wrapping the eastern half of campus

The whole eastern half of the Davidson campus has been designated an arboretum since the 1980s. Several hundred trees from across the temperate world are planted around the academic buildings and athletic fields, each with a small bronze label naming the species. The collection focuses on native Piedmont hardwoods but includes Asian and European species that thrive in North Carolina's humid summers.

Free, open at all hours, and pleasantly empty when classes are in session. A printable map is available at the visitor's centre — or just wander.
