The pier is the island's living room. A weather-beaten wooden structure that pushes a few hundred feet into the Atlantic from the centre of town, it draws a steady mix of serious anglers, kids with cheap rods, and walkers who pay the small fee just to watch the swells roll in from a hundred metres offshore. Spanish mackerel, bluefish, sea mullet, and the occasional king mackerel are the usual catches.
There is a tackle shop at the entrance that sells bait, ice, and licenses, and a grill that does workmanlike burgers and breakfast biscuits. Sunrise here is the best free entertainment on the island; the pier faces almost due east, so the sun lifts straight out of the water.
