The Neuseway Nature Park stretches along the south bank of the Neuse River just south of downtown Kinston. It combines walking trails, picnic areas, a campground, a small nature centre, a planetarium, and a modest collection of native and exotic animals. The park is family-oriented and free to enter, with small charges for the planetarium and the health and science museum.
The riverfront trail is the most pleasant feature, with paths through cypress wetlands and observation points overlooking the Neuse. The town's connection to the river — the same river that carried the CSS Neuse ironclad in 1865 — is most accessible here.
