Hitchcock Creek Greenway

The Hitchcock Creek Greenway is a walking and cycling trail that follows Hitchcock Creek as it cuts through the center of Rockingham. The paved path connects several parks and neighborhoods and gives the town a pleasant green spine that's easy to miss if you just drive through on US-74.

The creek itself is a modest but attractive stream running through bottomland hardwoods, with the sandy-soiled longleaf pine landscape that defines the Sandhills visible on the higher ground. The trail is well maintained and a good option for a morning walk or run. Access points are scattered through town; the trailhead near the Sports Complex on US-74 is convenient.
