Swansboro Historic District covers much of the old centre of this small port town. The streets are low-key and best taken on foot: frame houses, old commercial buildings, porches, shopfronts, and glimpses of the White Oak River.
This is not a grand museum district. Its appeal is scale. You can wander it slowly, stop for coffee or lunch, and still feel the town's old relationship with the water.
