Keelboat Park

Keelboat Park, along the Missouri River in north Bismarck, centres on a full-scale replica of the Discovery, the keelboat used by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark on the first leg of their expedition to the Pacific in 1804–1806. The replica is 55 feet long and constructed to the specifications described in Clark's journals. The park also includes bronze sculptures of Lewis, Clark, Sacagawea, and York (Clark's enslaved manservant), set against the Missouri River bluffs.

The Missouri River here looks much as it did when the Corps of Discovery paddled through — wide, brown, and powerful, with the low bluffs on the far bank marking the western edge of the Mandan homeland. The park is a pleasant stop for a short walk and some river views, and the keelboat gives a genuine sense of the scale and difficulty of the expedition. Free admission, open year-round.
