When to Go

Dayton's climate is classic Midwestern continental: cold winters with regular snowfall (December through February), warm and sometimes humid summers (June through August), and pleasant shoulder seasons on either side. Spring and autumn are generally the best times to visit — comfortable temperatures for walking the Aviation Heritage Trail, and outdoor events fill the calendar.

The Dayton Airshow at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base draws massive crowds in July and is worth timing a visit around if aviation is your thing — it features military and civilian flight demonstrations over several days. The Dayton Celtic Festival in September and the Gem City ShakesFest in summer are among the city's other well-attended events.
