Ohio State Reformatory

The Ohio State Reformatory is Mansfield's heavyweight sight: a massive Romanesque Revival prison built between the 1880s and 1910 and closed in 1990. Its towers, cell blocks, peeling corridors, and institutional scale make it visually unforgettable.

Most visitors come because much of The Shawshank Redemption was filmed here, but the building does not need the movie to be interesting. Tours cover prison history, architecture, restoration work, and film locations; seasonal events lean into the site's haunted reputation.
