Hocking Valley Scenic Railway

Volunteer-run heritage railway offering scenic rides from Nelsonville's old depot.

Hocking Valley Scenic Railway is Nelsonville's clearest visitor anchor. Trains leave from the old depot and roll through the wooded Hocking Valley, with seasonal rides adding extra reason to plan ahead.

This is not polished theme-park nostalgia, which is a good thing. It feels connected to the valley's coal, clay, and brick history, and it gives the town a reason to be more than a quick highway stop.

A story
Nelsonville grew because rail lines could move Hocking Valley coal and clay north to bigger markets. The scenic railway reuses that industrial geography for slow rides rather than freight.
