Holy Name Cathedral

Holy Name Cathedral is the seat of the Diocese of Steubenville, a handsome brick church that serves as the religious centre of the region's large Catholic community. The interior is well proportioned and the stained glass is above average. It is an active parish rather than a tourist attraction, but visitors are welcome outside of services.

The cathedral's presence reflects Steubenville's history as a destination for Catholic immigrant workers — Italians, Poles, and others who came to work in the steel industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Their descendants still form much of the city's social fabric, and the Italian community's influence is visible in the local food culture and the Dean Martin connection.
