The Ohio Swiss Festival is when Sugarcreek stops being merely themed and becomes fully theatrical. Downtown fills with Swiss food, cheese events, music, dancing, races, parades, and contests.
If your trip falls near the festival, it is the best time to see the village at full volume. Outside festival days, the same Swiss identity is still visible in the clock, murals, and storefronts, just at a much quieter scale.
