Eating Out

Youngstown's best dining is concentrated on the south side and in pockets of the suburbs. The city's Italian heritage is genuine — families from Sicily and Calabria arrived in the early 20th century to work in the mills and never fully left, and their cooking descendants run some of the most reliable Italian restaurants in northeastern Ohio. Brier Hill on the south side was the Italian neighbourhood; the tradition continues there and along Mahoning Avenue. You will find good bakeries, delis, and trattorias where the pasta is made in-house and the portions are generous.
