The Rose District

The Rose District is Broken Arrow's revitalized downtown — a compact grid of early 20th-century commercial buildings that have been converted into restaurants, boutiques, coffee shops, and local businesses over the past decade. It is small by the standards of any major city but genuine: the buildings are real, the businesses are local, and on a weekend morning the farmers' market draws a real crowd.

The district runs along Main Street and the surrounding blocks and is walkable in 20 minutes. The Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center sits at its eastern edge. On First Fridays, local shops stay open late and there's usually live music somewhere in the area. For a Tulsa suburb, it has more character than most.

A story
Broken Arrow is named for a Creek Native American community that settled here after being displaced from Alabama on the Trail of Tears — the name derives from the Muscogee word "Rekackv." The Rose District was given its current name in 2012, but the revitalization of the original downtown grid started with a master plan in 2005. The farmer's market and performing arts center that anchor the district today were both envisioned in that plan.
