Garfield County Courthouse

The Garfield County Courthouse anchors the downtown square and is one of the more impressive county courthouses on the Oklahoma plains — a substantial Beaux-Arts structure built in 1907, the year of Oklahoma statehood, when the new state was eager to demonstrate its permanence and ambition. The building has been restored and remains in active use.

The surrounding courthouse square is the civic heart of Enid, with a small park and a cluster of historic commercial buildings. A walk around the square gives a good sense of the downtown's Edwardian-era streetscape, most of which has survived in reasonable condition despite the economic pressures that have emptied many small Oklahoma downtowns.
