Har-Ber Village Museum

Open-air pioneer village with one of the largest US antiques collections

Address 4404 W 20th St, Grove, OK 74344

Har-Ber Village is the reason most travellers who aren't here for the lake stop in Grove. It is an open-air museum on the west side of town, a 100-acre site with more than a hundred reconstructed and original buildings — a one-room schoolhouse, a chapel, a general store, a blacksmith shop, a barber, a doctor's office — each stuffed with period antiques. The Jones family collected everything: tools, lamps, dolls, firearms, kitchenware, vehicles, musical instruments. The result is not curated in the modern museum sense; it is more like wandering through the attic of an obsessive twentieth-century America.

Admission is free, which is unusual for a private museum of this scale. Allow at least two hours. The site sits on the shore of Grand Lake and is open from late spring through early autumn — call ahead in shoulder seasons.

A story
Trucking magnate Harvey Jones and his wife Bernice started collecting in the 1960s; what began as a private hobby became a 100-building open-air village by the time it opened to the public in 1968, and by Harvey's death in 1989 it held over a million items.
