Texas County Courthouse

Texas County's seat of government, 1929 art deco

The Texas County Courthouse, in the centre of downtown Guymon, is a modest 1929 building in restrained art-deco-meets-Beaux-Arts style — limestone facing, simple pilasters, a low cornice. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and is the visual anchor of the small downtown. The original courtroom upstairs is well preserved; weekday visitors can usually go up and have a look.

The square around it has a few benches, a war memorial, and the slow rhythm of a county seat going about its weekday business. It is the right place to start a walk through downtown before heading out to the bigger sights.
