Southwestern Oklahoma State University, locally always just SWOSU, was founded in 1901 and has been the defining institution of Weatherford ever since. The campus is a pleasant cluster of mostly mid-20th-century buildings centred on a quadrangle.
Visitors with an interest in pharmacy history can visit the small museum at the College of Pharmacy, one of the older such programs in the region. Milam Stadium hosts the Bulldogs football team and is the focal point of campus life on autumn weekends. The campus is freely walkable and gives Weatherford a more lively street life than other towns of its size in western Oklahoma.
